I taught a mid-school /middleschool student who lived alone with his mother who had divorced [a single parent]. I expected that it would be a rewarding experience for me, however, things were didn't work out./it didn't go well.
He was very lazy and he hated to study. Every time he took a nap and never did his homework and don't didn't concentrated on our class every time. It took over 10 minutes to start to our tutoring session after I arrived at his home because he always played games, sometimes even with his friend, before our class.we would always start our tutoring session 10 minutes late because he always played games,sometimes even with hisf friend,before our class.
One day he said he had an final exam at his school in that weak.that week. I came up with a list of expected questions and solved them with him and asked him to review them. At In our the next class, I was surprised when I saw a test paper of his final exam/his test paper because many of the problems was were almost the same with the questions I made for him. I was more surprised because he got no single question correct answer for the all? the questions among them. I strongly told /i scolded? and told him that If he had spared only 10~20 minuteds to for review, he would have get gotten a higher score more scores because at the in our last class he could solve the problems by himself.
He lowered his head when I was saying those/he was looking down while i was reprimanding him, so I thought changes were begin to him.about to begi. However, actually he was actually drowsing, not reflecting on himself. 
I felt helpless and thought that people do something hard when they invest something for them, and think something lightly when they got them without their effort. what do you mean here?
