The given bar chart illustrates changes in the number of hours per week spent on domestic works by both genders with the different number of children in their family in hour scale.
It seems clear that married women spend more time on their unpaid work than their counterparts do and the increase of the number of children in families leads women to work around the house more longer. In contrast, there are not many changes the amount of time men do regardless of the number of children.
Looking at the details, married women with no children spend the least amount of hours at approximately 30 hours per week. While, married men work the longest hours for around 18 hours. In 1 – 2 children in families, the number of hours women work at home rises to 52 hours per week. Interestingly, married men maintain approximately the same amount of time as in childless family. It means women spend more time than men do due to the responsibility for nurturing their children.
Surprisingly, there are only few changes in males¡¯ the number of working hours on household chores, even though the increase of the number of children in family members. Men spend the least amount of time on their unpaid work and the result in the number of children do not have an effect on men¡¯s the rise of the time of households. In contrast, women have to allocate much time to their domestic works. They spend more than 3 times as much time on house work as men when they have more than 3 children in their family |
